Nana (Elizabeth Murphy) was a very special lady. As a single mother she raised my Mother and loved her more than her own life. She told me that on a Sunday she told Charles Duncan that she was pregnant and he agreed to marry her, She was young and was wild about Charles. On Wednesday his engagement was announced in the Youngstown Vindicator to another woman. Elizabeth was crushed, for his family did not want him to marry Elizabeth. I’m sure at the time it was devistating to be an unwed mother. Katie’s records show that he never married until later in life so it would be interesting to try to go back to 1925/26 and find an engagement notice.
